| 4 Instants | Discotheque here we unearth a missing nugget! very little is known of the 4 instants. they do not even appear on the tapestry of delights (a.k.a. the holy bible of uk beat/r&b/psych/prog..). undoubtedly released as a teen exploitation album in 1966 by saga on the society subsidiary, the lp offers a tight mod r&b instrumental sound all through it, with killer hammond organ and sensational guitar licks. everyone into all night mod jazz / r&b partying shall consider this lp a classic on its own from now on! think of graham bond organisation, dave davani four, the mohawks or any of those great mod jazz / soul jazz lps that were imported from the us in the era and you`ll get a close idea of what this album sounds like. mostly offering killer versions of hits of the day ("watermelon man", "mashed potatoes", "monkey time"..) there is also one top sounding cover of the classic ellington tune "caravan" and three fantastic tunes written by the band, the credits of which give us the clue of the musicians involved, drummer clem cattini being one of them - thus throwing connections to other greats of the genre such as the mohawks or ugly custard, and giving an idea of how tight this band sounds, since cattini (who had preeviously been in the tornados and recorded under the direction of joe meek) was one of the more in demand session drummers and his work can be heard in many of the number one hits of the sixties and seventies. sensational playing in an energy-plenty recording. this obscure jewell seems to be still completely unknown even among those into the coolest of the cool, maybe due to the non too well chosen original sleeve, to which our design team is giving a twist in order to make this exceptional lp look as fab as it deserves! a unique sleeve for a unique pressing of only 500 copies! . | Aaron Lightman | Aaron Lightman 180g vinyl, 500 pieces limited this amazing lp from 1969 is one of the most beautiful hidden gems in the field of pop arranged singer-songwriters. originally issued on poppy records, home of psych heads the mandrake memorial among others, lightman`s deserves to be discovered by all the fans of the soft rock, orchestra arranged sounds. think of an american reply to the early works of duncan browne, bill fay, nick garrie or even donovan at his most posike recordings. fans of the eraly bee gees will also enjoy this lp! credit for the arrangements and production goes to the great ron frangipane and david christopher, who is also credited as a co-writer of the albums songs. the album came housed in a beautiful milton glaser sleeve (glaser was the main designer at poppy at that time) which the wah wah reissue respects, and featured an insert with the lyrics which is also reproduced on our reissue. housed in quality sleeves and pressed in 180 gr thick black vinyl for the delight of the most discriminating audiophiles. . | Action | Action 1972 + 3 bonus tracks action from zweibruecken were playing organ-dominated progressive hard rock in the tradition of deep purple or the early uriah heep. the ideas and their execution are good; the way the singer tries to imitate ian gillan, however, at times seems somehow artificial. in the summer of 1972, action recorded three tracks for demo purposes at the kerston studio. only in 1997, the recordings by chance caught the attention of the small dortmund label very good records. the label released them as lp together with a live track in an edition of 500 copies on black and 100 copies on green vinyl. at the end of 2008, action reunited for two professionally recorded gigs. the one from 11/22/2008 was now added to the cd as bonus. the tracks from 1972 were drawn from the master tapes. . | Aera | Hand Und Fuss germany 1976 second album of this great german band for the first time re-released on vinyl. the line-up had a little bit changed. drummer wolfgang teske was replaced by lucky schmidt (of wind fame) and due to the addition of violin player christoph krieger the sound was a touch more varied but mostly in the vein of “humanum est”. again great melodies, driving rhythms and lots of space for solos from guitar, sax and flute and in addition from violin. long tracks like their classics “mechelwind” and “elephen elephants” show the bands’ impressive ability to create atmosphere, passion and force. absolutely great stuff. remastered from the original tape, comes with 4 p. insert. | Aera | Humanum Est ger 1974 great first album of near nuremberg (bavaria, germany) based band re-released on vinyl for the first time. after he left famous “ihre kinder”, guitarist muck groh looked for new musicians to play his idea of german progressive rock. with sax- and flute player klaus kreuzeder he found, after a lot of changing line-ups, a congenial partner to create a sound not only in the tradition of bavaria jazz-rock oriented bands like embryo, out of focus, missus beastly etc. but also with that certain krautrock feel, that led the music to an unique style, originating as a highly inventive fusion band with strong percussion, driving rhythms and lots of space for solos from guitar, sax and flute (crack in the cosmic egg). humanum est presented a most proficient instrumental band with a strong identity with multi-tracked guitar-riffing and near ever-present wind solos, a real classic of the genre. long tracks like “papa doing”, demmerawang” “hodibbel” or “sechs-achtel” give an idea what the musicians were able too. while there live-performances – they toured near all the time – they often played hour long versions of their classics to their enthusiastic affiliates (comparable to kraan). remastered from original tape, comes with insert (bandstory/photos).(limited 500 copies) . | Aera | Mechelwind double cd unites absolute rarities of famous german band aera. aera founded in 1972 by "ihre kinder" guitarist muck groh and 2066 & then keyboard player steve robinson were in their very beginnings, when they recorded their special extended version (26 minutes) "mechelwind suite" of their later classic title "mechelwind" (on album "hand und fuss", lhc 44, vinyl-edition). the mechelwind suite is divided into 5 parts and is rather different from the later album-version, not only because of steve robinsons excellent keyboard playing but also because of muck grohs fine guitar playing and klaus kreuzeders pleasant sax tunes. cd 1 finishes with two swf-recordings "hodibbel" and "mechelwind" from oktober 1973 again with 2066 & then keyboarder steve robinson. cd 2 contains a live performance of aera from 23.12.1973 with the same line up as on cd 1. highlights are the 15-minutes-version of "hodibbel" and 12-minutes-version of "papa doing". the recordings show aera at their very best during their first decade. both cds are digital remastered from the original tapes. double cd comes with comprehensive booklet with a lot of unseen photos and band history told by founder-member steve robinson . | Aerovons | Resurrection world of youresurrectionsay georgiawith herquotes and photoswords from a songbessie goodheartsomething of yoursshe`s not deadthe yearseverythings alrightthe children bonus tracks: train (single a-side)song for jane (single b-side)here (unreleased song)world of you (demo) one of those "wow! i didn`t know that existed, but what a find!", type albums. a lost in action masterpiece from 1969, full of beatles connections and inflections, plus the groups own popsike visions.signed by emi from the demo of their song world of you, the beatles inspired american band, the aerovons proceeded to absorb everything around them in late 60`s london and particularly abbey road studios. they met george harrison and paul mccartney, watched the fab four record yer blues and sexy sadie, heard playbacks of oh darling! then they laid down their own material, with the able assistance of engineers alan parsons and geoff emerick, both with their own beatles connections.with songs varying from acoustic ballads to full orchestral productions the album was drenched in typically florid late 60`s abbey road production sounds. band leader and album producer, tom hartman admits to succumbing to his flair for the dramatic using bytes from the emi sound effects library rather liberally. unintentionally many of the songs bare their influences brightly: like her (strong whiff of `and i love her` about it), resurrection (a retake on `across the universe`), everythings alright (which lyrically, vocally, melodically visits `getting better` and stays). though other songs do show how strong the group were as writers in their own direction with the hook and strings laden world of you, and the psychedelically vaudevillian bessy goodheart. only two singles were released by parlophone in 1969, the band returned to st louis and the album was criminally shelved. with hind sight had the album been released at the proper time the aerovons would have beaten badfinger by a year, and could well have stolen their thunder. this is a lost sixties gem, essential listen for popsike fans, full of the beatles and the abbey road sound. | Affinity | 1971-1972 track listing 1. moira’s hand 2. grey skies 3. cream on your face 4. sunshower 5. all along the watchtower/it’s about that time 6. rio 7. poor man’s son 8. sarah’s wardrobe 9. highgate at the end of january 1971, lead vocalist linda hoyle and hammond organist lynton naiff, having both given a month’s notice, quit affinity - the band they had been with for two and a half years - to go their separate ways. it was an amicable split. the remaining members of the band - bass-player mo foster, guitarist mike jopp, and drummer grant serpell - each began to embrace new projects. however they missed the fun of a small cohesive team and, after some discussion, made the decision to keep the name affinity and to try to continue as a performing and recording entity. it was not an easy task since finding replacements for linda and lynton - both of whom were superb musicians - was necessarily a challenge. affinity had first met vivienne mcauliffe at exeter university while playing one of their last gigs with the original line-up. she had been lead vocalist with the college band, principal edwards magic theatre. back in london the band held a set of tortuous auditions but it soon became clear that vivienne - with her crystal-clear voice and out-going personality - was the only possible choice to replace linda. she became one of the lads. at about this time ex-tornados keyboard-player dave watts answered an advert in melody maker and brought with him not only his own hammond organ but also an impish sense of humour. within minutes he slotted in to the band banter and, as soon as he played, the guys knew he was the right man. there was soon had enough material for a whole new set and uk college gigs and club dates soon followed. frustratingly, a studio album of the new material at that time never happened. but this album - the album that never was - is an attempt to fill that void and is compiled from a set of studio demos and full band rehearsals. enjoy! musicians: mike jopp - mo foster - grant serpell vivienne mcauliffe - dave watts.
